Forged Steel is used in high stress applications like gears, crankshafts or suspension due to it’s strength, reliability and durability.

Forged steel are opaque markets with no transparent pricing; volumes and dimensions are key factor in price which can make it a challenge to understand price breakdown during supplier negotiations.

The Forged Steel Calculator enables you to calculate a should cost value for your own custom grades and chemical compositions. It provides the ability to:

  • Enter your own custom grades and compositions with the ability to adjust the composition and see the impact to intrinsic value
  • Select geographical region which adjusts the Fastmarkets prices assessments for the raw materials cost
  • Convert prices, surcharges and costs into chosen currency
  • Select dimensions and furnace type
  • Enter tonnage
  • View the cost breakdown (labour, As-cast, SG&A, Capex/Interest Expenditure & Inventory handling/logistics)
  • View a final should cost value in US Dollar and your chosen currency per Tonne

Enter supplier negotiations better informed; validate your own model against Fastmarkets trusted pricing and cost expertise or plan material costs where no spot price exists.

The Forged Steel Calculator requires the installation of the Fastmarkets Excel Add-in and appropriate subscriptions.

To access the calculator go to the Fastmarkets Dashboard > Newsletters & reports then select Other Reports. Here you will find the Methodology document providing cost assumptions as well as the download link for the Calculator.
